WHAT ARE FACIAL FILLERS?

Facial fillers, also known as dermal fillers or injectable fillers, are gel-like substances injected beneath the skin's surface to add volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial contours. These fillers are typically made from substances like hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, poly-L-lactic acid, and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA).

Hyaluronic acid fillers are the most commonly used and are known for their ability to attract and retain moisture, providing hydration and plumping effects to the skin. Calcium hydroxylapatite fillers stimulate collagen production, offering longer-lasting results. Poly-L-lactic acid stimulates collagen synthesis gradually over time, resulting in a natural-looking improvement in skin texture and volume. PMMA fillers consist of tiny, biocompatible beads suspended in a gel, providing immediate volume and stimulating collagen production for long-term results.

Facial fillers can be used to address a variety of concerns, including smoothing wrinkles and fine lines, restoring volume to under-eyes, cheeks, and temples, enhancing lips, and improving the appearance of scars or depressions in the skin. They are administered through a series of injections by a qualified healthcare professional and typically require minimal downtime. The results of facial fillers are temporary and may last anywhere from several months to over a year, depending on the type of filler used and the area treated. Overall, facial fillers offer a safe and effective non-surgical option for facial rejuvenation and enhancement.

Understanding the Different Types of Dermal Fillers

JUVÉDERM®

Juvederm is a brand of dermal filler commonly used to address signs of aging, such as wrinkles and volume loss in the face. The primary active ingredient in Juvederm fillers is hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body and helps maintain skin hydration and volume.

When injected into specific areas of the face, Juvederm adds volume, smoothens lines and wrinkles, and enhances facial contours. It works by attracting and retaining water molecules, which helps to plump up the skin and restore lost volume.

Juvederm injections are versatile and can be used in various areas of the face, including the lips, cheeks, nasolabial folds (smile lines), marionette lines (lines that run from the corners of the mouth down to the chin), and under the eyes.

The results of Juvederm injections are immediate, although some swelling and bruising may occur initially, which usually subsides within a few days to a week. The effects of Juvederm typically last between 6 months to 2 years, depending on the specific product used and individual factors such as metabolism and lifestyle.

Overall, Juvederm injections provide a non-surgical option for rejuvenating the appearance of the face by restoring volume and smoothing out wrinkles, helping individuals achieve a more youthful and refreshed look.
